For the cameras I would recommend disguised cameras, none are small enough to not be seen right now. They have ones disguised as smoke detectors on ebay. Then you will need a system to collect all the surveillence video. You have two options. Option 1: You can use a VCR and simply record the vidoe on VHS or Option 2: your can use a tuner card for your computer and record all the video on your computer. If you go with option two you will need a tuner card, a very large hard drive, and the proper recording software. Ebay has all of this equipment. A system with about 5 cameras would probably cost around $ 600 depending upon the quality of the components used.
I did that recently, I made the mistake of going to a so called “spy store” and I bought a tiny wireless camera . I think i paid almost $ 250. A week later I went to an electronics store called “FRYs” they are a wholeseller. They had a very large selection of surveillence systems for about what I paid for the wireless camera.
What you need to look out for is a a sytems that has a good software that can record and give a flexable view of more than one camera. “Digi Vue” has some inexpensive systems that included video capture for your computer.

This technology is getting ready to explode into the homes and businesses throughout the world. With wireless networks in over one-third of homes, IP addressable Wi-Fi cameras eliminate many of the problems associated with running wires and the need of special monitors. With Wi-Fi security cameras, you may check the cameras from anywhere. Many of the Wi-Fi cameras come equipped with infrared light sources enabling the camera to “see” in the dark. Your hard drive captures the images and stores them for you. Motion detectors activate the record feature to cut down on the volume of recorded images. The resolution on these cameras continues to increase while price continue to decrease to prices affordable to most families and small businesses.
Look for IP addressable cameras and only spend the extra money on the infrared light source for cameras that need it. Opt for motion sensors for cameras outside of your home. Most of the cameras with the best resolutions might present problems with concealment, but with a little imagination, camouflaging becomes easy. You probably do not want to hide all of the cameras, as the presence of cameras tends to deter would be criminals.
As cameras decrease in size, mounting one in your vehicle is the next logical step. Compression and storage technology allow for hard drives mounted in the trunk set up to record the video/audio feed. In some cases, the hard drive connected to a home network friendly device allows you to retrieve that data without removing anything from the car. In fact, you may integrate a second hard drive to store MP3’s and play them back through your vehicle’s sound system. Imagine the power of having a video recorder in your car when the police stopy you for a violation that you did not commit. Just do not advertise that the system is there, as you do not want the authorities subpoenaing your recording to use against you.
Check any of the online technology sites for the cameras. Tigerdirect.com, geeks.com, pacificgeeks.com, pricewatch.com, and JRT.com should help you get started. Research the technology available and match it to your existing home network technology. Keep in mind that adding additional cameras later is a solution for budgetary constraints.
Good luck!

Go to radio shack, get a motion activated camera. Some are quite small. Are you trying to catch someone in particular? If not, try ADT.
I like wifi video, as I wardrive in neighborhoods!
I can see it all!
More systems would be nice!
Hope this really explodes as some industry experts have predicted!
Most cams also broadcast audio!
Wow this is a great topic and one I needed to ask myself. Carlos I checked into the website and it is aw some. If you can and don’t mind, can you email me at Cubanitatb@yahoo.com. I would like to ask you a few more questions about the website.
To add to the question, make sure you get a system that is easy to understand. I have been calling around and they want to sell me stuff that is to technical for me. I just want to get basic cameras to see what goes on around my house when I am not here. I have been told that VHS is not the way to go. They now have DVR systems that record only when there is movement. Cams that go from color in the daytime to night vision sensitive at night. There is so much out there that it is overwhelming to someone who is not informed.
